As part of our DT lesson this half term we are creating a bread product fit for a Roman Emporer. This required us to do some research, where better to do this than our very own local bakery at Morrisons. Leigh the baker and Karen were so helpful and made our day extra special by letting us taste some of their products. We especially liked the donuts! We can't wait to design our own product for 'The Great Roman Bake Off!'

The Earth's Layers, by Mrs Sullivan

We have been investigating the formation of the Earth and looking closely at each layer to determined how a volcano is formed. We know that there is an inner and outer core and a mantle underneath the Earth's crust. We think the Mantle is a vital layer, which helps to form a volcano but we need to continue to investigate. Year 4 have been learning about how history is told by things left behind. The children studied ancient greek pots from the past to discover their roles and lifestyles. They have also been busy creating thier own pots to recreate the story of Theseus and the Minotaur. The children created their own images to dipict the story.
World Book Day 2019, by Mrs Sullivan

Today has been very exciting! Mrs Sullivan came to school as a mysterious character and we had to discover who she was. We asked her all sorts of questions and wrote a fantastic description of her character. She had a tall, top hat and a slim curly moustach. She lived in the Place Between and hates children. Her long emerald, green cloak shone like shiny amethysts. Her age is a mystery but we know it is a number btween 100 and 200.
The children looked fabulous in their World Book Day costumes and had lots of fun!
Pancake Day, by Mrs Sullivan

Today we have looked at the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand from five samll loaves and two fishes. We thought it was amazing how something so small was magnified into something so huge. We share a post-it note sized pancake to recreate that day and to imagine what it felt like.
The children were asked what they would like magnified to share around the world.
Jessica - I want to magnify love around the world.
Amelia - I want food and love magnified to feed the homeless.
Ashish - I want to magnify kindness so that everyone feels valued.
Science investigation into teeth, by Mrs Sullivan

Investigating teeth was so much fun! We discovered we had different types of teeth and decided to investigate why.
To do this we created our friends teeth out of playdough using dentist mirrors. Some of our teeth were missing and some of our teeth were bigger than others.
Morrisons Visit Year 4 - Healthy Eating, by Mrs Sullivan

What an exciting day! Morrisons came to talk to us about staying healthy and looking after our bodies! We tasted new nutritious food and played exciting games - charades, the hungry caterpillar healthy eating race and we created our our healthy dish, thinking about the nutrition values and the benefits to our body. There was plenty of fruit and vegetables, which we be eating until the end of the week.

The Walker Art Gallery - Ancient Greece, by Mrs Sullivan

Year 4 had a wonderful time visiting the World Museum to further their study of the Ancient Greeks . They had opportunitites to develop their knowledge of history left behind through clay pots and the images which told interesting stories about the olympic games and gods and Goddesses.
After this the children moved on to the Walker Art Gallery where they took part in a workshop to depict a mythical story from a piece of artwork. The children were asked to write their own story ending and they even got to dress up and act it out!
After lunch they visited the Ancient Greek sculptures, which were fascinating. They were able to choose their favourite sculpture to sketch in their art books.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and they were a credit to the school.

Year 4 had a wonderful time sharing their first half term's learning with their friends andThis morning, families at Christ Church. They shared poems, fact files, songs and stories linked to the European Union and our christian value this half term which is TRUST. After they had shared their learning, the children had an opportunity to have a drink and a biscuit with their family and share their topic books. Everyone had a wonderful time!
