Welcome to Year 1, by Mrs Wilson

Welcome to your first day in Year One.  We hope you all enjoyed a safe and happy summer holidays.

As Mrs Olson's older daughter will be starting school today, Mrs Armstrong will be holding the fort!  Normal teaching days will resume next week.

We look forward to seeing you all ready for the new term.

Toys in Space Party, by Mr Ellis

We had an exciting time this afternoon enjoying our 'Toys in Space' party after making our puppets this morning. We played the same games as the toys in the story; musical statues (we even won medals like the Hoctopize!), pass the parcel and musical bumps. We then enjoyed juice and biscuits.

We had a fantastic day investigating habitats, plants and mapping skills and the sun shone all day!

Pear Class had great fun today taking part in several science investigations. We predicted if a bubble wand's shape would change the shape of the bubble we blew and then tested it. We tried blowing up a balloon without touching it and investigated how to sink a satsuma.

The Easter Story, by Mr Ellis

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about Easter and what happened to Jesus. This afternoon we re-enacted Palm Sunday through to Easter Sunday and finished our day by enjoying hot cross buns and juice.

Maths investigations, by Mr Ellis

We have been busy this week investigating length/height and finding objects around the classroom which are longer/shorter than 1 metre and longer/shorter than 10cm. We have also been investigating which 3-d shapes are best for building a tower.

We have had great fun today, all dressed as characters from Roald Dahl books. We have practised our computing skills, taking photos of each other using the i-pads, and have written about our favourite stories.

Yum! We enjoyed eating our pancakes this morning after Celebration Assembly - thank you to Mrs Parker and her team for all their hard work.

We are amazed at the talent in Year 1 - well done to all the children for all the 'Boris' entries, and to all the parents for your continued support. The robots are fantastic and we look forward to seeing the winners next week.

Anna Jackson Visit, by Mr Ellis

We were privileged to meet Anna Jackson this morning. Anna is a Paralympic Basket Ball player who has represented GB in many international sporting events - she represented Great Britain at the Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia, in 2000!
We were exhausted after taking part in the 7-minute sponsored circuit with her!
