Perseverance, by Mrs Swift

Date: 3rd Feb 2021 @ 2:48pm

We watched a video about perseverance called Soar where a girl tried hard to make her plane fly.  When is did not go to plan she did not give up until she achieved her dreams. We wrote what we wanted to achieve on paper aeroplanes and then threw our planes to see if we could make our dreams soar.

Science - investigating materials, by Mrs Swift

Date: 1st Feb 2021 @ 1:35pm

In year one today during science we have had lots of fun investigating materials. We had lots of questions to ask and tried to test the materials against the differenty properties.  Does it float? Does it bend? Is it magnetic? etc  Not surprisingly they all really enjoyed testing the items in water.

Home learning, by Y1-Teacher

Date: 28th Jan 2021 @ 9:57am

We have all been really impressed with the home learning submissions we have been receiving.  The children (and grown ups at home) have been working very hard.  The children have been continuing to look at Shabbat as part of the R.E. and have drawn plates of food to show what they eat during their own special celebrations.

In English we have been looking at a new book, The Lion Inside, they had to tell us what they already knew about mice and lions and then explore the character of the mouse and lion in the book.

The children have been set a weekly phonics scavenger hunt and they seem to have been enjoying it finding lots of things around their home.

Keep up the hard work, stay safe and enjoy your learning.

Year on science and DT hunt, by Mrs Swift

Date: 19th Jan 2021 @ 2:47pm

Year one had fun this afternoon looking around the playground to see what examples of fasteners or joins they could find.  We then spent some time on our science work hunting for materials and deciding if they were human made or natural.

Church assembly, by Miss Caldwell

Date: 4th Jul 2019 @ 1:00pm

We are all proud of the way in which all the reception performed in our class assembly. They were absolutely brilliant. It is such a privilage to have seen them grow and develop since September, watching as their personalities have changed. We hope you enjoyed hearing about all their favourite memories from their first year in school.

We are now looking forward to our trip to the Blue planet aquarium!

Miss Caldwell is very proud of how hard they all worked as a team this morning to create our new story. They then went and worked independently to create their own versions of 'Billy's bucket'. Well done Plum class!

Year 2 trip to Lower Moss Wood, by Mrs King

Date: 5th Jun 2019 @ 4:54pm

This week Year 2 have had a very enjoyable trip to Lower Moss Wood. When we arrived we met Ray, who was very excited to show us around the wood and talk to us about the wildlife that lives there. He taught us some bird songs, showed us the tallest tree in the world, and even allowed us to join in with his play about nettles!

After lunch we were allowed to go pond dipping, and we managed to catch lots of exciting creatures - it's not just frogs that live in ponds! The day seemed extremely tiring for some, as we had many snoozers on the bus on the way back to school!

I'm sure your children will enjoy telling you all about the funny things that happened on the trip, as well as everything they learnt (which was a lot!)

As always, a big thank you to all the parent helpers who came along - without you, the trip couldn't go ahead so we really appreciate your time, thank you very much.

Christian Values Day - SERVICE, by Mrs Wilson

Date: 26th Apr 2019 @ 5:55pm

We started today with Collective Worship with Robin, where we learned about Jesus washing the disciples' feet.  Although he was the most important person, he still served his disciples.

We then learned about people who serve us in our community - we made a long list!  People who help us include doctors, nurses, police officers, fire fighters, dentists, road workers, carers and teachers!

We created collages of people who help us, which are now on display in our corridor, so look out for them when you next visit school.

Beeston Residential 2019 - Beech, by Miss Manton

Date: 8th Mar 2019 @ 10:01am

We had a fantastic time at Beeston! On our first day we enjoyed a lovely, but very wet walk to Beeston Castle and we explored the woods finding lots of interesting objects along the way. During the Evening, we weaved fish out of willow and drank hot chocolate around a campfire. Tuesday morning saw lots of tired faces! However, we still had a great time in our Stone Age Workshop. We learned how to grind flour and we made our own bread around the campfire. We also learned how a hunter gatherer would catch their own food using a bow and arrow. Everyone had an amazing time and I am very proud of everyone for their fantastic behaviour and for being excellent ambassadors for our school! Hope you all sleep well this weekend!

Daddy Bear visits Wharton Primary, by Mrs Swift

Date: 7th Mar 2019 @ 12:26pm

Daddy Bear came to school to hunt for Goldilocks and his missing porridge.  Would you believe he never found a single Goldilocks in the whole school.  He did have lots of fun though causing havoc.  The children all enjoyed his visit and some even claimed to be the porridge thieves.  Mrs Tomlinson was very pleased when he joined her meeting and he even had a sit in the Head Teachers chair!

Christian Values Day PERSERVERANCE, by Mrs Wilson

Date: 15th Jan 2019 @ 4:52pm

We had a wonderful day on Friday learning about the meaning of perserverance.  We had to persevere and try to build a tower of bricks using only tweezers (really tricky!), we tried hard to thread beads on a string using only one hand (this was really tricky too!) and aim quoits to land on a cone (this was the trickiest of all!)
